Cell division Flashcards
A series of changes the cell experiences from the time it is formed until it divides.
Cell Life Cycle
Cell grows, longer metabolic processes.
Interphase
Cell reproducing itself.
Cell Division
Division of the nucleus, forming 2 daughter nuclei.
Mitosis
Breakdown of nuclear envelope and nucleoli.
Chromatin coils into chromosomes.
Chromatids (identical strands) are held together by centromere.
Prophase
Visible straight line of chromosomes.
Chromosomes are aligned in cell’s center.
Metaphase
Centromere splits.
Chromatids move slowly apart
toward opposite ends of cell.
Done when the chromosomes stop
moving.
Anaphase
Nuclear envelope reforms.
Chromosomes uncoil, making
chromatin.
Spindles break down and disappear.
Nucleoli appear in each of the daughter.
Telophase
Cytoplasm division.
Begins in late anaphase.
Completes in telophase.
Cytokinesis
