Cell Diversity Flashcards
What is a tissue?
A tissue is a group of similar cells that are modified to carry out the same functions.
What is tissue culture?
Tissue culture is the growth of cells in or on a sterile nutrient medium outside an organism.
What are the two animal tissues?
Connective tissue and nervous tissue
What is connective tissue and what’s its function?
Connective tissue consists of a number if cells spread out in a matrix that is produced by the connective cells.
The function is the connective tissue joins and supports other body structures.
What is nervous tissue and what’s its function?
Nervous tissue is composed of nerve cells called neurons.
Its function is that the neurons adapted to carry electrical impulses to and from the brain and spinal cord.
What are other application of tissue culture?
IVF or/ and vaccine production
What is an organ?
An organ is a structure composed of a number of tissues that work together to carry out one or more functions.
What is an organ system?
An organ system consists of a number of organs working together to carry out one or more functions
What is micropropagation?
Is the growing of plants from pieces of tissue under sterile conditions in the laboratory.
What is an example of a plant organ and what is it made from?
An example of a plant organ would be leaf. It is made from epidermal, ground and vascular tissue.
What is an example of an animal organ and what is it made from?
An example of an animal organ would be the stomach. It is made from connective tissue.
