Q

Checkpoints

A

G1/S - checks cell is ready to enter S phase for DNA synthesis/replication
G2/M - checks cell is ready for mitosis or to check if DNA is not mutated

Q

Importance of meiosis

A
  • sexual reproduction
  • produces gametes
  • involves reduction decision -forms haploid cells (half no of chromosomes)
  • cells genetically different from independent assortment and crossing over

Q

Interphase (G1, S, G2)

A

Interphase - period of cell other and DNA replication
G1 - cell grows, organelles duplicate, protein made
S - DNA replicates, (rapid phases as exposed base pairs are more likely to get mutated do reduces mutations)
G2 - cell keeps growing
