Cell Cycle General Flashcards
1
Q
M phase
A
Involves mitosis and cytokinesis
- cell growth stops
- mitosis occurs (PMAT)
- cytokinesis happens
2
Q
G0
A
Resting phase
- cells undergo differentiation or death
- cells can remain temporarily or permanently
3
Q
Checkpoints
A
G1/S - checks cell is ready to enter S phase for DNA synthesis/replication
G2/M - checks cell is ready for mitosis or to check if DNA is not mutated
4
Q
Importance of mitosis
A
- asexual reproduction
- growth of multicellular organisms
- repairing damaged tissue
5
Q
Importance of meiosis
A
- sexual reproduction
- produces gametes
- involves reduction decision -forms haploid cells (half no of chromosomes)
- cells genetically different from independent assortment and crossing over
6
Q
Interphase (G1, S, G2)
A
Interphase - period of cell other and DNA replication
G1 - cell grows, organelles duplicate, protein made
S - DNA replicates, (rapid phases as exposed base pairs are more likely to get mutated do reduces mutations)
G2 - cell keeps growing
