Cell Cycle Flashcards
What are the four phases of mitosis, in the correct order?
Prophase, metaphase, anaphase, telophase
Describe one event that happens during prophase.
chromatin condense and shorten into visible chromosome
Describe one event that happens during metaphase.
chromatid pairs align in the centre of the mitotic spindle, along the middle of the cell.
Describe one event that happens during anaphase.
the centromeres split, separating the two members of the chromatid pair and move to the opposite poles of the cell
Describe one event that happens during telophase.
chromosomes uncoil and revert back to chromatins; mitotic spindle breaks up and the nucleus reappears
Describe one event that happens during interphase.
replication of cells organelles and cytosolic components occur; replication of chromosomes occur
Genetic recombination occurs during which phase?
Prophase I
How many chromosomes are in a haploid cell at the completion of meiosis?
23
