cell cycle Flashcards
what does mitosis produce?
new cells for growth and repair of tissues
chromatin
a single long strand of
DNA coiled around proteins called histones.
interphase
before mitosis or meiosis cells go through interphase where they grow and make a copy of genetic infomation
G1 phase
checks dna for any damage
G2 phase
Growth and preparation for cell division
s phase
DNA replication takes place, chromosomes have 2 chromatids
meiosis
occurs only in the production of sperm and egg cells for sexual reproduction
prophase
the first phase, chromatin condenses to make x shaped chromosomes and move towards the centre of the cell.
metaphase
the chromosomes are assembled along the middle of the cell
anaphase
the sister chromatid are pulled apart from each other as the spindle fibres contract
telophase
end phase of mitosis, chromatin decondenses, new nuclear membrane is formed
cytokinesis
2 separate cells are formed
binary fission
the way that other organelles divide
