cell biology intro (german) week 1 Flashcards
What are the 3 domains of life
Bacteria, Eukarya, and archaea
Fluid mosaic model of plasma membrane
membrane components move fluidly within the lipid bilayer
- dynamic interface
- heterogenous
- discrete domains- lipid rafts
lipid rafts
portion of plasma membrane where it is sphingolipid and cholesterol rich and is less fluid than the rest of the plasma membrane. Regulation of signal transduction and endocytosis
5 types of endocytosis
- Phagocytosis
- Macropinocytosis
- clathrin-dependent
- caveolin-dependent
- clathrin-caveolin independent
4 functions of endocytosis
- remodel the plasma membrane
- alter external environment
- provide necessary nutrients
- regulate signal transduction
T/ F: endocytosis occurs in all membrane domains even where lipid rafts are void?
True
What protein is critical in endocytosis
Rab GTPase
Endocytosis pathways
- interalization into vesicle
- brought to early endosome where you can two out comes
1. goes to late endosome then to lysomome to be degraded
2. sent to recycling endosome and excreted - also products from the golgi and be sent to early endosome for processing.
Kinesin molecular motor direction
anterograde or away from nucleus
Dynein protein motor direciton
retrograde or towards the nucleus
`
Location of metabolic pathways
- glycolysis
- CAC, krebs or TCA
- ETC
glcolysis is in cytoplasm of cell
CAC is in matrix of mitochondria
ETC happens at the inner mem of mitochon.
Transcription from DNA to RNA
RNA pol reads in the 3 to 5 direction
RNA produced in the 5 to 3 directions
RNA actively exported through nuclear pore complexes
The steps of Cell cycle (mitosis)
prophase, metaphase, anaphase, telophase
PMAT
G1-cell comps duplicated
S- DNA duplicated
G2-chromosomes cohere and proper duplication is checked
G0- no active division and cell is arrest
