Cell Biology Flashcards
What is cytoplasm?
It’s a site of chemical reactions in the cell that contains enzymes to catalyse reactions
What is the Nucleus?
It contains genetic material and controls activities of the cell and codes fro proteins
What is the cell membrane?
It’s a semi permeable cell that controls the movement of all substances in and out of the cell
What is the ribsome?
It’s a site of protein synthesis that mRNA is translated to an amino acid chain
What is the mitochondrion?
It’s the site of respiration and where energy is released for the cell to function
What are eukaryote complex organisms?
The plant and Animal cell
What is the permanent vacuole?
It contains cell sap, keeps cell turgid and contains sugars and salts in solution
What do the cell wall?
It’s made of cellulose and supports and strengthens the cell
What is chloroplast?
It’s the site of photosynthesis, contains chlorophyll and absorbs light energy
What is cell differentiation?
It’s how a cell changes and becomes specialised, undifferentiated cell and are called STEM cells
What’s in a animal cell?
Cytoplasm, A nucleus, Cell membrane and mitochondria
What’s in a plant cell?
Cytoplasm, A nucleus, Cell membrane, cellulose cell wall, mitochondria, permanent vacuole and chloroplast
What is in Bacterial Cells?
The Cell Membrane, Bacteria DNA, Cell wall, Plasmid and Cytoplasm
What is Bacterial DNA?
It controls the function of a bacterial cell and it’s not in nucleus it just floats in the cytoplasm
What is a plasmid?
It’s small rings of DNA and contains additional genes
