Infection and Response Flashcards
What are measles?
It’s a virus that droplet infection from sneezes and coughs and is cured from a vaccination
What is HIV?
It’s a virus from sexual contact and exchange of body fluids and can be prevented by anti-retroviral drugs and use of condoms
What is Salmonella?
It’s a bacteria from Fever, cramp, vomiting, diarrhoea and can be prevented by Improve food hygiene, wash hands, vaccinate poultry, cook food thoroughly
What are viruses?
DNA or RNA surrounded by a protein coat
What are bacteria?
No membrane bound organelles and single celled organism
What are Protists?
Membrane bound organelles, Usually single celled
What are fungi?
Membrane bound organelles, cell wall made of chitin
What are antibiotics?
Kill infective bacteria inside the body
What is a photosynthetic reaction?
Carbon Dioxide + water -> Oxygen + Glucose
What is the rate of photosynthesis affected by?
Temperature, light intensity, carbon dioxide concentration and amount of chlorophyll
How is photosynthesis affected by temp?
The temp increases photosynthesis up to a point where it needs more energy for the chemical reaction
How is photosynthesis affected by light intensity?
As light intensity increases so does the rate of photosynthesis and it goes up to a point where more energy is available for the chemical reaction
How is photosynthesis affected by carbon dioxide concentration?
Photosynthesis will increase when a plant is given higher concentrations of carbon dioxide
How is photosynthesis affected by the amount of chlorophyll?
Chlorophyll absorbs light and allows the reaction between water and carbon dioxide to occur and it could limit the rate of photosynthesis
What is aerobic respiration?
Respiration with oxygen. It occurs inside the mitochondria continuously and has a large amount of energy
