Indications

A
  • Suspected meningococcal septicemia.
  • Sepsis, where cefazolin is not indicated, and:
    • Older than 12 years.
    • One of more clinical features are present for antibiotics.
  • Time to hospital is greater than 30 mins.

A
  • A cephalosporin antibiotic when broad activity against gram positive and gram negative bacteria.
  • Inhibits productions of bacteria cell wall.

Administration & Dose

A

IV:
* Dissolve 2g into 4ml NaCl.
* Dilute to total of 10ml.
* Administer over 1-2 mins.

IM: (if IV access cannot be obtained.)
* Dissolve 2g into 4ml NaCl.
* Draw up 2.5ml to 2 syringes.
