If an applicant comes with a medical packet or is an SIV, refugee, or parolee

- If the healthcare provider is unfamiliar with the proper handling or administration of the CDC-regulated item.
- If the patient has a complex medical history or underlying conditions that could increase the risk of complications.
- If the patient has any questions or concerns about the CDC-regulated item.

- Wash hands in warm soap and water for at least 20 seconds
- Limit contact with item
- Limit handling or opening of item
- Wear appropriate PPE as indicated by CBP
- Double-bag item; disinfect outside of bag
- Dispose of PPE and wash hands
- If package is leaking, follow HazMat protocol, call emergency number on package, and call CBP Ag and CDC Port Health Station.
What are 3 obligations Customs Officers have to aid in the enforcement of quarantine rules and regulations?
-DHS personnel detect ill travelers by recognizing visible signs of illness and notify CDC.
-DHS personnel assist CDC in conducting enhanced entry risk assessment (sometimes called entry screening) in situations where a significant outbreak is detected abroad.
-DHS will aid CDC in the enforcement of entry requirements and in the execution and enforcement of CDC-issued federal public health orders or travel restrictions.
