Acne Vulgaris
Pimples! chronic inflammatory disease generally caused by overproduction of sebum around the root of the hair follicle. common in teens.
Seborrhea

benign skin growth
non cancerous moles
onychia or onychitis
inflammation of the bed of the nail. likely will fall off.
onychorcryptosis
ingrown toenail, can be caused by a fungal infectionl

abnormal condition caused by a fungus
Tinea
ringworm, a fungal infection
Impetigo
bacterial infection, painful pustules that become encrusted and then rupture
Gangrene
death of tissue caused by loss of circulation to the area
Parasitic infestation
dwelling of microscopic parasites on the surface of the skin
What is a Lesion?
a region in an organ or tissue which has suffered damage through injury or disease, such as a wound, ulcer, abscess, or tumor.
crust or scab
collection of dried sebum and cellular debris after injury
macule
discolored flat spot less than 1cm in aka freckles
skin nodule
solid or cystic (cyst) raised bump on the skin
exudate
a fluid, such as pus, that leaks out of an infected wound
Psoriasis
skin disorder resulting in flare ups. red papules covered with silvery scales
Acanthosis Nigricans
a velvety, darkening of the skin that usually occurs in intertriginous areas. often look grey.
intertriginous is where the two parts of the skin touch or rub
Albinism
genetic condition, absence of pigment in the skin, hair, and irises.
Chloasma
overactive pigmentation, brown spots on the face. common during pregnacy, hormonal changes or as a side effect of some meds.
Vitiligo
destruction of melanocytes. causes irregular white patches of skin.
Alopecia
partial or complete baldness
Follicitis
inflammation of the hair follicle
Hirsutism
excessive body hair in women. can be hereditary or caused by hormonal imbalance
Contusion
injury to the skin without breaking skin surface
ecchymosis

aka a bruise.
hematoma
swelling of clotted blood in the tissue
petechiae
pronounced: (puh-TEE-kee-ee)
Appear as small red or purple spots on the skin, caused by minor bleeding of capillaries (tiny blood vessels) under the skin. can be caused by various things from straining, to medications, infections, or other disorders.
purpura
purple discolorations on the skin caused by bleeding under the skin

dermatitis
inflammation of the skin, skin becomes swollen, red, and itchy
contact dermatitis
contact with an irritant or allergen
