tai yang SHL lines
SHL Line 1: In Tai Yang disease the pulse is floating, the head and nape are stiff and painful, and
there is aversion to cold.
SHL Line 2: In Tai Yang disease, when there is heat effusion, sweating, aversion to wind, and a pulse
that is moderate, it is called Wind Strike.
SHL Line 3: Greater Yang disease, whether heat has effused or not, as long as there is aversion to
cold, with generalized pain, counterflow retching, and yin and yang pulses are both tight it is called Cold
Damage.
SHL Line 71: When in Greater Yang disease, after sweating is promoted and a great sweat issues, if
there is dryness in the Stomach, vexation and agitation with insomnia, giving a small amount of water
will harmonize the Stomach Qi so that recovery will ensue. (2) if the pulse is floating and there is
inhibited urination, slight heat, and dispersion thirst, Wu Ling San governs.

Kai-He-Shu: closes Yang, descending
Yang Ming SHL
SHL Line 180: In Yangming disease, the Stomach organ/channel complex is replete.
* 4 BIGS: sweat, pulse, fever, thirst
In Tai Yang disease, if one promotes sweating, or purges, or promotes urination, the fluids become damaged and dryness arises dryness in the Stomach and disease passes into Yang Ming. No bowel movements, internal fullness, and difficult defecation is Yang Ming.

Kai-He-Shu: Pivot, the birth of Yang
Shao yang SHL
SHL Line 263: In Shao Yang disease there is a bitter taste in the mouth, dry throat, and dizzy vision.
SHL Line 264: When Wind Strikes Shao Yang, there is no hearing in both ears, red eyes, and fullness and vexation in the chest.
SHL Line 265: In Cold Damage, when the pulse is string-like and thin, and there is headache with fever, the disease belongs to Shao Yang.

Tai Yin
SHL
SHL Line 273: In disease of Tai Yin there is abdominal fullness and vomiting with the inability to get food down, severe spontaneous diarrhea, and periodic spontaneous abdominal pain, and if purged (precipitation is used) there will be a hard bind below the chest.
SHL Line 277: When there is spontaneous diarrhea and thirst is absent, this belongs to Tai Yin disease; because there is cold in the storehouse (zang), one should use a warming treatment. A counterflow cold decoction formula is appropriate.
Shao yin Biao Ben Zhong qi Kai he shu
Biao: Shaoyin Ben: heat Zhong qi: Taiyang Kai-He-Shu: Pivot (interaction of Yin and Yang, Yin transformation necessary for Yang to enter storage of Yin)
shao yin SHL
SHL Line 303: When in Shaoyin disease that has lasted more than two or three days, there is vexation
in the heart and inability to sleep, Huang Lian E Jiao Tang governs.
SHL Line 316: When Shaoyin disease has not ceased after two or three days, and at four or five days there is abdominal pain, inhibited urination, heaviness and pain in the limbs and spontaneous diarrhea it means there is water qi, and the person may cough, or have uninhibited urination, or diarrhea, or retching; therefore Zhen Wu Tang governs.
SHL Line 305: When in Shaoyin disease, there is generalized pain, cold extremities, joint pain, and a pulse that is sunken, Fu Zi Tang governs.
Jue yin Biao Ben Zhong qi Kai he shu
Biao: Jueyin (at the deepest level of Yin pathology)
Ben: wind
Zhong qi: Shaoyang
Kai-He-Shu: close (allowing Yin conformations to come to a close so that Yang can be allowed to
reemerge)
jue yin SHL
SHL Line 326: In Jue Yin disease there is consumptive thirst, upward qi surges striking the heart, painful heat in the heart, hunger with inability to eat and vomiting roundworms upon eating; for if purged, incessant diarrhea will occur.
Wei fen Pathogenesis
Pathogenic heat invades the body from the exterior attacks the lung and is stagnated in wei
Wei fen syndrome
Fever and dry mouth, slight aversion to wind and cold, occasional head ache and pain in the throat, cough, Tongue: red margin and tip of the tongue, and Pulse: floating and rapid pulse.
wei fen tx
Relieving the exterior syndrome with drugs pungent in flavor and cold in property
wei fen points
LI4, LU7, (regulate flow of qi, clear lung heat)
TB5 (resolves pathogen),
GB20 , GV14, (clear exogenous pathogens)
qi fen pathogenesis
Wind heat pathogen invades the lung and stomach, or damp heat lingers in san jiao.
qi fen syndrome
High fever and aversion to heat
Thirst with a bitter taste, vexation
Cough, fever unrelieved with sweating
Dark urine
Pulse: full and large pulse or deep and re-plete pulse.
qi fen tx
Clearing away the heat
Expelling the pathogenic factor from the exterior Promoting the dispersing function of the lung
qi fen points
LI4 (heat)
LU5 (drains clears heat, d/c lung fire)
LI11 (heat)
GV14 (clear pathogen),
ying fen pathogensis
Constant invasion of pathogenic heat consumes ying - yin and heat sinks into the pericardium and mentality is disturbed.
ying fen syndrome
Fever and vexation Dry mouth and sleeplessness Tongue: reddened or crimson tongue, Pulse: rapid OR indistinct skin eruptions, or coma and delirium Pulse: rapid
ying fen tx
Expelling heat from ying fen or removing the heat from the heart to re-store consciousness
ying fen points
PC8 ( fire)
SP 6 (3 yin)
KI6 (nourish kid yin).
xue fen pathogensis
Pathogenic heat entering xuefen damages the heart and liver.
xue fen syndrome
High fever coma or mania distinct skin eruptions hematemesis, nose bleeding , melena/hematochezia, hematuria twitching or spasm of the limbs
Tongue: dark red tongue, less coating
Pulse: weak and rapid or running pulse.
xue fen tx
Removing heat from the blood and dissipating blood stasis
xue fen points
SP10 (move blood, build blood), SP8 (circulate blood) LR2 (clear heat in liver channel) KI2 (clear more heat) Shixuan (tips of fingers, dispel wind, clear heat)
list the 5 evils
inner wind stirring cold generated from the middle internally generated damp Jin-fluid xu transforming into dryness internally generated fire heat
Liver Yang transforming into Wind
- overwork or emotional stress damages Lr and Kd yin
causing yin xu/yang excess. - Lr yang rises up with no control and turns into wind.
- Muscle twitches, dizziness with desire to lie down, tremors.
Extreme heat generating Wind
- Fluid is cooked off and sinews and vessels are no longer
lubricated, excess yang heat generates wind.
Loss of consciousness with full body spasms
Spasms of the limbs
Flaring and relaxing of the nares of the nose
Eyes roll back in addition to other signs like high fever, coma, delirium
Yin deficiency stirring inner Wind
Yin fluids have become dried out, can no longer nourish the sinews, wind is generated.
Muscle spasms, and tremors in the hands and feet.
Blood deficiency generating Wind
blood failing to nourish the collaterals and internal
generation of wind arising.
Numbness in the limbs, tremors or shaking of the limbs.
Yang deficiency wherein Yin becomes over abundant
Contraction symptoms, bi-syndrome, spasm.
Yang deficiency that negatively affects Qi transformation
Creates situations of accumulation.
Long voidings of clear urine, lots of clear cold thin saliva; in some cases there will be loose stools or even diarrhea (chronic); or perhaps edema.
Internal generation of damp turbidity
Spleen deficiency creating dampness.
Stuffy feeling in chest, cough, abdominal distention, lack of interest in food, loose stools.
Jin-fluid deficiency transforming into dryness
Yin deficiency due to chronic disease or heat syndrome. Most commonly affects Lung, Large Intestine, Stomach.
Dry/flaky skin, dry eyes, dark urine, dry cough, dry stool constipation.
Excessive Yang transforming into fire
Yang becomes overbearing and functional processes become hyperactive; yin is damaged and fluids consumed.
Pathogen blockage transforming into fire
Due to external/internal pathogens, food stagnation, parasitic pathogens.
Emotional excesses transforming into fire
Emotions block flow of qi and creates liver qi stagnation and eventual transformation into fire.
Yin deficiency with effulgent fire
Due to essence and blood deficiency damaging yin fluids leading to excessive yang.
