C.C Mod 1- Hypercatabolism Flashcards
What process degrades extracellular materials brought in from endocytosis?
heterophagy
benefits of autophagy are
removing bad stuff that leads to parkinson’s and alzheimer’s disease
In starvation what happens to BMR?
lowers BMR
decreases body temp and pulse
diff between starving and hypercatabolism
starve-protein preservation and maintain muscle;
Starvation increases __ and becomes dependant on__
catabolism; ketone bodies
in the first 24hr what do you rely on for energy (ask - 24 or 12?)
glycogen in liver
using ketones for energy comes out to
co2 and water
in partial and total starvation RMR does what? What else happens
increase catabolism, increase autophagy, decrease anabolism, decrese RMR
what does the body decrease during starvation?
glucose made from protein breakdown, glucose to brain, and urea from protein breakdown going into kidney into urine slows
what increases during starvation?
KB made from acetyl coA from FA in the liver goes more to the brain into acetyl coA
the adipsoe lipoprotein lipase is extrememly sensitive to
insulin
__skin is seen instarvation
flaky
what is the most common early complication of bariatric surgery?
slow healing of abdominal wound from breakdown of anastamosis
Phases after an injury are? and their timings
ebb (hr)->flow (d)->recover (wk)
What phase is catabolism in ?
flow
What phase is anabolism in?
recovery
What shock in?
ebb phase
main dif between starve and hypercay
cytokine storm (epinephrine and glucocorticoids) in hypercatablic syndrome
In sepsis, the body is masssively producing __ and __
glucose and catabolizing FA
In starvation… but in hypercatabolism.. what happens in energy usage?
the body has time to adapt to using Ketone bodies; you need tons fo energy instantly (i.e. gunshot wound).. you get over the initial need but the hormones released causes you to go ‘haywire’ and you get vrey sick if you run out of fuels if prolonged
she said she won’t ask about indications for bariatric surgery..so whats important about it
less of a GI tract-> absorb less nutrients-> at risk for hypercatabolism?
Patietn Ann R who has anorexia nervosa has hypercatablism, True or false?
False, it is chronic.. she is doing ketosis to keep her brain going (mild starvation, not as much as someone not eating at ALL)
the primary fuel used in hypercatabolism is
protein, but also you’re mobilizing quite a bit of fat
