CBT - Warning Systems Flashcards
Get familiar with the warning systems of the E-Jet series
In order of importance from the highest to the lowest, what are the priority levels of aural warnings?
CAS Field
To inform the flight crew regarding aircraft system status, EICAS messages are presented in the upper right corner of the EICAS display in a box known as the CAS field. There are four message levels:
- Warning
- Caution
- Advisory
- Status.
EICAS Message Categories
Advisory messages will be automatically acknowledged after X seconds when they become normal

Visual Warnings
The synoptic color philosophy used on the displays present their indications in XXXXX to indicate the ON status or in XXXXX to indicate OFF, or no air or no fluid flow.
Unavailable or invalid data is presented by a XXXXX symbol.
In case of a failed component an XXXXX “X” is placed on top of the symbol.

Aural Warnings
In order of importance from the highest to the lowest, what are the priority levels of aural warnings?
- Emergency (Level 3 alerts)
- Abnormal (Level 2 alerts)
- Advisory (Level 1 alerts)
- Information (Level 0 alerts)
Flight Control Modules
The Flight Control System provides two basic modes of operation:

- Normal
- Direct
EGPWS
How many modes does the EGPWS have?
Mode 1: The excessive descent rate.
Mode 2: The excessive closure to terrain.
Mode 3: The altitude loss after take-off.
Mode 4 (A B C) The unsafe terrain clearance.
Mode 5: The descent below glideslope.
Mode 6 (A B): The altitude callouts
Windshear Detection
Windshear detection is only active between XXXX and XXXX feet radio altitude during the initial takeoff, go-around and final approach phases of flight, and when detected by the EGPWS.
10 ft - 1,500 ft.
TCAS
A TA is defined as an intruder aircraft entering the caution area, XX to XX seconds from the TCAS collision area.
35 - 40 seconds
TCAS
A RA is given for an intruder aircraft entering the warning area, 20 to 30 seconds from the TCAS collision area.
20 - 30 seconds
A solid cyan diamond stands for Proximate Traffic (PT). PT are aircraft within a range of 6,5 NM and plus or minus 1,200 vertical ft.
- 6,5 NM
- +/- 1,200 vertical ft.
A hollow cyan diamond symbolizes other traffic (OT). OT can be any transponder within +/- XXXXX ft vertically and within the range of the display.
+/- 2,700 ft vertically
