A

Where a parasite benefits off of the relationship with a host but the host doesn’t benefit

Q

Give an example of a mutualist relationship

A

Bees spread pollon in flowers with allows them to reproduce and bees get nectar which is their food

Q

Give an example of a pasitic relationship

A

Fleas which feed off of the blood of mammals such as dogs providing them with food and taking away the dogs blood

16
Q

Why does the quardinates to the placement of a quadrat have to be random

A

So there is no human biast

17
Q

What are the 5 steps to using a quadrat

A

Place the quadrat on a random point in your first sample area

Count all of the selected organisms

Do this multiple times to get a table of data

Do the same with the second sample area

Find the mean results and compare them

18
Q

How do you find the estimated number of organisms in an area

A

Work out the mean number of organisms per metre saquared

Multiply the mean per metre squared by the total area

19
Q

What are the two methods of studying distribution

A

Belt transept

Quadrat

20
Q

What are belt transept used for

A

Finding the distribution along a gradient

21
Q

What is biodiversity

A

The variety of living organisms in an ecosystem

22
Q

How can human activities reduce biodiversity in the form of fertilisers

A

Fertilisers can leach into water causing algae to grow, this will block sunlight from below aquatic plants preventing them from photosynthesis. This will kill these plants which will inturn kill the fish because the plants were making them oxygen.

23
Q

How can fish farms reduce biodiversity

A

Predators of the fish caught in the nets can approach causing them to also get stuck in the nets

24
Q

How can non indigenous species reduce biodiversity

A

Non indigenous species can compete with indigenous species for resources such as food water and shelter

25
Give two ways humans can conserve biodiversity
Reforestation and conservation schemes
26
Give three examples of benefits of maintaining biodiversity
Protecting human food supply Providing future medicines Bringing new jobs
27
List three ways carbon can be put in the air
Combustion of fossil fuels Repiration CO2 from decay
28
List the only way carbon is produced back into the wildlife
Photosynthesis
29
Name all five steps from water being evaporated to water returning to the ocean in the water cycle
Evaporation Condensation Precipitation - rain Surface run off - water flowing along the ground Ground flow water - water flowing in the ground Transpiration - water being evaporated from trees
30
Name two ways to add nitrates to soil
Crop rotation | Fertilisers
