Define militarism
The aggressive buildup of armed forces to intimidate and threaten other nations (similar to escalation, all major western countries were practicing this)
Define alliances
“friendships” between nations
Define imperialism
A powerful country exerting its dominance on a weaker country
Define nationalism
a feeling of intense pride in one’s homeland (not necessarily a bad thing)
Who was in the Triple Alliance?
Germany (leader), Austria-Hungary, and Italy
aka Central Powers
Who was in the Triple Entente?
England, France, and Russia
What was the immediate cause of WWI?
The assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria-Hungary (Killed by Gavrillo Princip, a Serbian nationalist and Bosnian student - also a member of the terrorist group Black Hand)
What is the Schlieffen Plan?
Germany planned to just take out France
