View oncoming Liver Note colour/appearance VP both sides Incise hepatic LNs If edible -->incise mj bile ducts Do not incise if obvious petfood or if Dx exists
Kidneys
View coming kidneys
Note colour/appearance
VP all surfaces of kidney
Pluck (lung)
View oncoming pluck VP lungs View trachea Incise LB RB AM MM PM and RA LNs If trachea or lungs saved for edible, then incise trachea
Pluck (heart)
If required incise the pericardium so the heart falls free
View the pericardium
View and palpate the outer surface of the heart
Cut through the interventricular septum (IS) and atrioventricular orifices
Make one incision from the base to apex into each of the cut surfaces of the IS
Make one incision parallel to these into each side of the internal side of the LV about 10-20mm from the base of the septum
Make incisions at least 75mm long, sufficiently deep for adequate inspection
Head and Tongue
View head, eyes and surrounding tissues, oral cavity and tonsils
Incise parotid, retro and submax LNs
VP tongue, masseter and pterygoid
Incise masseter and pterygoid if staff aren’t trained in bovis detection
Carcase
View abdominal and thoracic cavities (pleura/peritoneum)
View all internal and external surfaces
View limb joints
View neural canal and spinal column
Incise supra/super and internal illiac LNs
If SPVD/TB/Actino incise subiliac and superficial cervical LNs
Lift the diaphragm VP both sides
List equipment for cattle viscera inspection
Agm74 retain rail tickets
Green ink
Condemned Stamp and Pad
List equipment for cattle carcass inspection

Head inspection for each part
View outer surface, eyes, mouth and gums
View and incise outer/inner cheeks
Incise parotid, retropharyngeal, submaxillary LN’s
View and palpate tongue
Lung inspection
View, palpate and incise lungs
Incise left and right bronchial LN’s
Incise right apical LN
Incise anterior, posterior, middle mediastinal LN’s
Incise trachea (to bifurcation of bronchia) and view
Liver inspection
View and palpate visceral and parietal surfaces
Incise hepatic LN’s
Incise renal impression of dorsal lobe
Incise and view hepatic bile ducts
Kidney inspection
View both sides
Heart inspection
If required incise the pericardium so the heart falls free
View the pericardium
