What are the two main categories of law
Civil law and criminal law.
What does civil law do
It deals with relationship between group of individuals or groups
What does criminal law do
Deals with matters that effect society as a whole, criminal laws are crimes committed against the state not just one individual citizen
Civil law:
Usually deals with disputes of property or presto all damage, it can be physical(possessions) or intellectual (ideas or creative(artwork).
Civil suits can be over little things like neighbors disagreeing over property damage or child custody when a divorce happens
What is a plaintiff
Someone who says that they have suffered harm, loss or injury to self property
What is a defendant
He or she sued the alleged wrong doer
Criminal law:
Most criminal laws are contained in the criminal code go Canada(passed by federal government 1882) if u break a criminal law is considered to be wrong against the Canadian society. Soooo the cases are carried out by the name of the crown
Prosecution
Lawyers representing the crown
Defence
The lawyer representing the accused person
Who makes the criminal laws
Only the federal government can make criminal laws, yet the provincial government can help administer them

Defamation of character Trespassing Contracts Tenant and landlord disputes Injuries occurring on private property Product warranties Advertising Compensation for injuries Divorce and child custody Sales contracts
