CAT SCANS Flashcards
CAT SCANS PROCEDURE 1/4
CAT scans of the brain involved passing X-rays into the head it different angles
cat scans procedure 2/4
The information from the multiple x-ray beams is interpreted by a computer and the detailed image of the structure of the brain is created
CAT SCANS PROCEDURE 3/4
The use of X-rays in the CAT scans involve exposure to radiation it is advised that this is only used when the possible benefits in relation to the diagnosis outweigh the potential risks
CAT SCANS PROCEDURE 4/4
CAT scan may help us surgeon to better plan a procedure before surgery takes place as it provides a more accurate layout to brain structure
CAT GENERALISABILITY
Not suitable for pregnant women due to the radiation rates of the baby making it low in generalisability by reducing the availability to participants + restricts the sample size
which means it cannot be generalised to the general population
CAT reliability
Standardized procedure
High reliability due to standardised procedure of X-rays passing through at different angles to create a image so high test retest reliability
CAT scans validity
internal validity
interpretation +no demand characteristics
Objective interpretation as researches can easily identify structural damage and there are no demand characteristics as no test is taken therefore it has very high internal
CAT scans ethics
X-Rays
Radiation from X-rays can cause cell damage leading to cancer and is therefore very dangerous giving it very very low ethics
CAT scans practical issues
cheapness+ time
CAT scans cost approximately £100 it’s cheap plus there’s no need for retesting therefore this means that there is little to no practical issues
+ it’s quick 15 minutes max
CAT scans what does it give you
X-rays radiations at the end of it a picture of brain structure
