cases Flashcards
DIC
complex systemic thromboheorrhagic disorder that uses intravasclar fibrin, consumption of procoagulants and platelets
waterhouse-friderichsen syndrome
overwhelming bacterial infection common caused by Neisseria meningitidis septicemia
rapidly progresses to hypotensionand shock
DIC with widepsread purpura
bilateral adrenal hemorrhage because bacteria settle in small vessels
mechanism DIC
initiation of coagulation via endothelial injury/tissue damage
- ->subsequent release of procoagulant material in the form of cytokines and tissue factors
- ->platelet mediated fibrin formation
- ->generalized bleeding–>hypperfusion, infarction, and end-organ damage
HSV can be vertically transmitted to infant before, during, orafter delivery
antenatal-5%
intra partum- passage through birth control- 75% asymptomatic
postnatal- cntact
antenatal
primary infection- transcient viremia occurs
findings are similar to TORCH infectins (microcephaly, micropthalamia, intracranial calcifications
