treat with topical steroids (systemic steroids if diffuse)

hypersensitivity reaction triggered by HSV or mycoplasma pneumoniae
usually resolves spontaneously within 2 weeks, may treat symptomatically or underlying cause

drug reaction to antibiotics, anticonvulsants, allopurinol, NSAIDS, chemotherapy
treat by stoping the drug and supportive therapy with high dose steroids.
