What would you describe a skin lesion by?
Site Size Shape Colour Palpate: mobility, surface changes, temperature, consistency Lymphadenoapthy: infection, malignancy
What lesions are commonly associated with seborrhoeic keratosis?
Patients often have mulitple cherry angiomas
What is the tretament for seborrheic keratoses?
Generally left untreated but if troublesome can be treated with;
Cryothertapy or curettage
What are seborrheic keratoses?
Benign, warty growths
Commonly appear on the face in the older population
Can have many appearances
What is leser trelat?
Sudden onset of widespread seborrhoea keratoses
Particularly in a young individual
It is a paraneoplastic phenomen commonly associated with cancers such as GI adenocarcinomas
What organism is responsible for viral warts?
Human papiloma virus
What can treat warts?
Cryotherapy
Wart pains
What is a pilar cyst?
Fluid filled cyst with hair follicles lining the cyst
What is the treatment of cysts?
Excision
If infection then antibiotcis, intralesional steroid
What is a dermatofibroma and what does it look like?
Benign fibrous nodule caused by proliferation of fibroblasts
Firm nodule tethered to the skin but mobile over fat
Dimple sign positive
Can be pale pink / brown
Can be itchy or tender
What sign is positive of a dermatofibroma?
Dimple sign positive
What is a worrying sign of a lipoma?
If it tender then this could indicate angiolipoma or liposarcoma
What is a lipoma?
Smooth rubbery subcutaneous mass
Benign tumour consiting of fat cells
What are the 3 types of angiomas?
Cherry angiomas
Spider naevi
Venous lakes
What is the presentation of a pyogenic granuloma?
Strawberry red/raw lesion Rapidly growing Often at site of trauma Bleeds easily Common on head & heands Common in pregnancy women
