How does OE indicate subject?
By marking on the subject called the nominative case or by marking the person and number (plural/singular) of the subject on the verb, called agreement.
What gets the accusative, dative and genitive case in OE?
Direct objects, object of prepostion

What are the main lexical categories? And why are they called lexical?
Noun (table), verb (see), adjective(yellow), adverb (quickly), preposition (across) They are called lexical because they carry meaning, they have synonyms and antonyms.
What are the grammatical categories?
Determiner (a, the, those), auxiliary (might), coordinator (and) and complementisers (because) They are called grammatical because they determine the syntactic relationships in a sentence. Prepostitions and adverbs do little of both.
Why is the distinction between lexical and grammatical categories important?
Because the change from old to modern english involves an increase in the number of grammatical categories, a process called grammaticalization. The use of grammatical categories is typical for analytic languages.

Grammatical is a closed category
