A

Attachment = a strong reciprocal emotional bond between an infant and a primary care giver

characteristics of attachment - proximity :stay physically close
separation distress: shows distress when an attachment figure leaves their presence
secure base behaviour -make regular contact with our attachment figure

A

responding to the action of another with a similar action

  • the actions of one partner elicit a response from the other partner
  • interaction flows both ways between adult and infants if they are taking turns
    eg. if the mother smiles the infant will smile back

A
  • adults respond in time to sustain communication
  • when 2 people interact they tend to mirror what the others doing in terms of facial and body movements
  • includes emotions and behaviours eg perfectly in time as if they were one pass
  • important for the development of attachment
