behaviourism approach Flashcards
What is behaviourism
A learning approach based on classical and operand
conditioning
What is a stimulus
Anything internal or external , that brings about a response
What is a response
Any reaction in the presence of the stimulus
What is classical conditioning
It’s a learning process which builds up an association between two stimuli through repeated pairing
What is a neutral stimulus(ns)
An event that doesn’t produce a response
What is a unconditioned stimulus (ucs)
An event that produces a natural , unlearned response
What is a conditioned stimulus (cs)
An event that produces a learned response
what is a unconditioned response(ucr)
an innate , unlearned reflex behaviour that an organism produces when exposed to a unconditioned stimulus
What is a conditioned response
A learned physical reflex behaviour that an organism produces when exposed to a conditioned stimulus
what is operant conditioning
Learning by consequence
what is a positive reinforcement
increases the likelihood of a response occurring because it involves a reward for the behaviour. example: ‘beth tells a joke because her friends usually laugh
What is a negative reinforcement
increases the likelihood of a response occurring because it involves the removal of , or escaping from , unpleasant consequences. example ‘Frank wears sunscreen to avoid getting sunburn’
What is a positive punishment
The consequence of receiving something unpleasant which decreases the probability of the behaviour being repeated example ‘Lewis tells his friends an inappropriate joke , his friends frown at him and suggest to him that
What is negative punishment
The consequence is removing something desirable and decreases the probability of the behaviour being repeated example: ‘katys phone is taken away by her mother because she was rude to her’
