Care-giver Infant Interaction Flashcards
What is attachment
A two way emotional bond
-between two individuals see the other as essential for their own emotional security.
Why is social interaction important for attachment
Interactions are the building blocks for attachment to occur.
What are the two social interactions
Reciprocity
Interactions synchrony
What is intersectional synchrony
Caregiver and infant mirror each others actions and emotions.
Reciprocity study
Tronick - still face experiment
-mother plays with baby then stops responding to baby for 2 minutes and baby becomes distressed.
Interactional synchrony study
Meltzoff and Moor-
-Interactional synchrony as young as 2 weeks old
- adult open mouth and stick their tongue out (distinctive behaviour) and infant mirrord behaviour.
- baby’s would even take dummy out their mouth to copy
- suggests biological attachment (innate)
Evaluation of testing infant behaviour
✖️- we don’t know if behaviour is deliberate or not - behaviour observed could be normal behaviour of baby and not in response to care giver .
✔️- lab experiments so are well controlled and replicable so results are more reliable and objective.
✔️- babies don’t know if they’re being recorded is natural behbauour - no demand characteristics.
