Cardiovascular Variation 1 Flashcards
Double SVC
23yo m with widened mediastinum on CXR was noted to be fit with no symptoms, BP along both arms were equal and normal
Singh et al., (2005)
Duplicated IVC
72yo m found on dissection to have 2 IVC uniting around L1, R renal vein drained into R IVC as normal and L renal vein drained into L IVC, as did the L supra-renal vein
L testicular vein also duplicated
Natsis et al., (2010)
Anomalous vessel (origin) Superior thyroid may branch from the common carotid in as much as 18%
Al-Rafiah et al., (2011)
Venous embryology
Can be mistaken for lymphatics
Strong association between venous anomalies and thrombosis - interruption/ agenesis of the IVC may be see in as much as 5% of children with DVT
Gil et al., (2006)
Retro-aortic left renal vein appearing as a suspicious mass
Interrupted IVC can also cause thrombosis issues as forces blood through vessels at volumes they were not designed to sustain
Cizinger et al., (2007)
