Cardiovascular System Heart Flashcards
Location of the heart?
Mediastinum
Pointed end of the heart.
Apex
What are the main structures of the heart? (5)
- Pericardium
- Wall
- Chambers
- Valves
- Great vessels
3 parts that make up the parietal pericardium
- Fibrous connective tissue
- Mesothelium
- Areolar tissue
Also called the epicardium
Visceral Pericardium
2 parts that make up the visceral pericardium.
- Meosthelium
- Areolar tissue
Layers of the heart wall (3)
- Epicardium
- Myocardium
- Endocardium
OUTER layer of heart wall also called visceral pericardium.
Epicardium
MIDDLE layer of heart wall that is composed of cardiac muscle tissue.
Myocardium
Thin DEEP layer of heart wall made up of simple squamouse endothelium and areolar tissue that lines the inside of the myocardium.
Endocardium
Chamber of the heart that receives deoxygenated blood from superior and inferior vena cava and the foramen of the coronary sinus.
Right Atrium
Chamber of the heart that receives oxygenated blood from two left and two right pulmonary veins.
Left Atrium
Chamber of the heart that pumps deoxygenated blood into the lungs.
Right Ventricle
Chamber of the heart that is a thicker ventricle and pumps oxygenated blood through the systemic circuit.
Left Ventricle
Separates the two atria.
Interatrial septum
