Cardiovascular System Heart Flashcards
Location of the heart?
Mediastinum
Pointed end of the heart.
Apex
What are the main structures of the heart? (5)
- Pericardium
- Wall
- Chambers
- Valves
- Great vessels
3 parts that make up the parietal pericardium
- Fibrous connective tissue
- Mesothelium
- Areolar tissue
Also called the epicardium
Visceral Pericardium
2 parts that make up the visceral pericardium.
- Meosthelium
- Areolar tissue
Layers of the heart wall (3)
- Epicardium
- Myocardium
- Endocardium
OUTER layer of heart wall also called visceral pericardium.
Epicardium
MIDDLE layer of heart wall that is composed of cardiac muscle tissue.
Myocardium
Thin DEEP layer of heart wall made up of simple squamouse endothelium and areolar tissue that lines the inside of the myocardium.
Endocardium
Chamber of the heart that receives deoxygenated blood from superior and inferior vena cava and the foramen of the coronary sinus.
Right Atrium
Chamber of the heart that receives oxygenated blood from two left and two right pulmonary veins.
Left Atrium
Chamber of the heart that pumps deoxygenated blood into the lungs.
Right Ventricle
Chamber of the heart that is a thicker ventricle and pumps oxygenated blood through the systemic circuit.
Left Ventricle
Separates the two atria.
Interatrial septum
Opening in the septum during fetal development.
Foramen ovale
Small depression in the septum resulting from the closer of the foramen ovale after birth.
Fossa ovalis
Muscles in anterior of atrial wall.
Pectinate muscles
Expandable sections in both the left and right atria.
Auricles
Wall separating the two ventricles.
Interventricular septum
Ridged inner surface of both ventricles
Trabeculae carneae
Tendons that attach each cusp of the atrioventricular valves to the papillary muscles.
Chordae tendineae
Muscles in ventricles which contract to tighten the chordae tendineae to limit the movements of the valves and anchor cusps of atrioventricular valves to heart wall.
Papillary muscles
4 valves of the heart
- Right atrioventricular valve
- Left atrioventricular vavle
- Pulmonary semilunar valve
- Aortic semilunar valve
Tricuspid valve
Right atrioventricular valve
Biscupid valve or mitral valve
Left atrioventricular valve
