Cardiovascular Lab Flashcards
An electrical recording of the contractions of the heart.
EKG/ECG
Machine used to performe a EKG
Electrocardiograph
Print out of a recording for an EKG wich reveals the contractions of the heart in a series of waves which are labeled.
Electrocardiogram
How are the waves labeled??
P, Q, R, S, and T
Indicates that the atria have depolarized and will soon contract.
P-wave
Indicates that the ventricles have depolarized, which the ventricular contraction starting right after the R-wave peak.
QRS-wave
Indicates ventricular repolarization.
T-wave
The measure of pressure that a volume of blood exerts on arterial walls as it moves through the body.
Blood pressure
Fancy name for blood pressure cuff?
Sphygmomanometer
Represents the maximum exertion by blood on the walls of the arteries.
Systolic blood pressure
Represents the force on arterial walls during the period in which heart chambers fill.
Diastolic blood pressure
Blood pressure of healthy adult?
120/80
High blood pressure? Greater than 150/90
Hypertension
Low blood pressure?
Hypotension
Listening to the sounds of the heart using a stethoscope>
Auscultation
