Cardiovascular System Flashcards
Describe the systemic circuit?
Transports oxygenated blood from the heart around the body and returns deoxygenated blood back to the heart.
Describe the pulmonary circuit?
Transports deoxygenated blood from the heart to the lungs and back to the heart
Name three blood vessles involved in the transport of blood?
- arteries
- viens
- capillaries
Identify three characteristics of viens?
- have valves to prevent backflow
- carries deoxygenated blood back to the heart
- carries blood at low pressure
Identify three characteristics of arteries?
- Carries oxygentaged blood away the heart
- carries blood at high pressure
- have thick walls
Identify three characteristics of capilares?
- small
- allow carbon dioxide and waste products to pass through
- have thin walls
Identitfy 4 mayjor blood vessles of the heart?
Aorta, Vena cava, pulmonary vein, pulmonary artery
What structure seperates the left side and the right side of the heart?
The spetum
What is the formula for cardiac output?
Cardic output= stroke volume X heart rate
What is meant by cardiac output?
The amount of blood pumped out the heart in one minute.
What is meant by stroke volume?
Amount of blood pumped out of the heart by each ventricle during one contraction
Define heart rate?
The number of the times the heart beats
Define the role of the haemoglobin?
Found in red blood cells which transports oxygen in the blood stream.
