Q

How much do we lose in fluid in from the vascular system?
What is the normal blood volume?
How does the lost plasma return through circulation?

A

-4L per day
-5L
-plasma returns through lymphatic system at thoracic duct and right lymphatic duct

Q

What is the pressure at the arterial end vs the venous end of capillary?

A

arterial end: net filtration pressure is 10mmhg which favors filtration since there is higher capillary pressure
venous end:net filtration pressure is -10mmhg which favors absorption since osmotic force due to plasma is larger than capillary hydrostatic pressure

Q

What is the lymph volume flow per day?
How much does HR increase by during excercise, what is young ppls max vs old ppls max HR?

A

-4L per day
-Hr increases by 3x during exercise
-max HR=220-age
-young ppl around 220 and old ppl 150

Q

What tone is increased during exercise?
What happens to SV at high HR?
What happens to diastolic period during high HR?

A

sympathetic tone increases causing increase in contractility and increase SV
-at high HR SV decreases bc as HR increase systolic period decreases since faster contraction
-diastolic decreases even more causing EDV to fall and ventricles wont contract as strongly and SV falls

Q

How much does CO increase by?
During excercise what are the causes of increased cardiac output during exercise?

A

increases by 3x since it is linear and reflective of increase in HR

Q

What is the increase in MAP caused by mainly?
What happens to TPR during exercise, what causes this?

A

-MAP only increases by 1.2x since systolic BP rises but diastolic P only increases slighly
-TPR decreases by 0.4x
-this is causes by many waste products being prodcued and local metabolic control causes dilation of vessels

Q

What is the value of O2 consumption during exercise, why?
Why does it increase as much as it does?

A

-can increase 9x
-since increase workload causes a linear increase in O2 consumption
-increases by factor of 9 since Co increases x3 and we for every mL of blood we neede 3x as much O2

Q

What is the resting aterio-venous O2 difference?
How much does it increase by during excercise?
What is the formula?

A

-5ml O2/100ml blood
-increases by 3x
Vo2=CO*arterial venous O2 difference

Q

What is the blood flow per min at rest vs during excercise?
why do we need more blood?

A

-1L/min at rest and 12L/min during strenuous exercise
-need more blood bc heart muscles are contracting faster and force is higher so we need more O2 as fuel

Q

What are the 3 pathways for neural control of vascular tone?
What type of receptor does each of these lead to alpha or beta?

A

1.adrenal medulla secreting norepi into blood which increase plasma NE
2.sympathetic postganglionic neurons release NE, increases NE in ECF
3.adrenal medulla secretes epi into blood, increases plasma epi.

Q

How does endurance training help max workload?
What does it not effect?
Why does SV increase?

A

-can do more work since CO has increased, also increases SV
-max HR
-SV increases bc contractility of heart has increased due to hypertrophy (thicker ventricle)
