Cardiovascular Objectives Flashcards
what does the P wave represent on an ECG?
atrial contraction - atrial depolarization
what does the T wave represent on an ECG?
ventricle repolarisation
what does the PR interval represent on an ECG?
the time taken for the impulse to travel from the SA node to the atria to the AV node and then enter the bundle of His
what does the QRS complex represent on an ECG?
ventricle depolarisation
what does the ST segment represent on an ECG?
- the end of ventricular depolarisation and the beginning of repolarisation
the ST segment begins to alarm on the monitor, what are your immediate nursing actions?
- review pt
- A-E assessment
- -check lines
- ECG capture
- ABG
- Dr review
when would you need to consider doing a 12 lead ECG?
- if pt has chest pain
- if you observe on monitor a change in pt rhythm
Give you immediate nursing action for Normal Sinus Rhythm?
-continue to monitor
Give you immediate nursing action for Atrial fibrillation?
-ECG
-A to E
-ABG
-chemical cardioversion - amiodorone
-HR control medication - beta blocker
?cardioversion
Give you immediate nursing action for Ventricular Tachycardia?
-Unconcious - CODE BLUE
-commence CPR
-defibrillation
if conscious - ? sedation, cardioversion, ABG (electrolyte imbalance?)
Give you immediate nursing action for Ventricular Fibrillation?
- CODE BLUE
- commence BLS
- defibrillate as soon as available
- follow ALS guidelines
Give you immediate nursing action for ST elevation?
- ECG
- A to E assessment
- Inform Dr’s
- transfer to Percutaneous Coronary Intervention
- administer aspirin
- administer OS if sats drop
- offer pain relief (morphine)
- monitor urine output
- ensure IV access is available
Give you immediate nursing action for ST depression?
- ECG
- A to E
- notify Drs
- GTN or beta blockers
- O2 if sats drop
