Cardiovascular Meds Flashcards
What does a beta blocker do?
Blocks the Beta 1 receptor causing a decrease in HR and decrease in CO
What does a diuretic do?
Increased fluid volume loss
What does a Ca+ Chanel Blocker do?
Blocks Ca+ chanels causing vasodilation
What does ACEI do?
Blocks Angiotensin 1 being converted to angiotensin 11, therefore RAAS system doesn’t continue on so BP is lowered
What does an Angiotensin 11 receptor blocker do?
Blocks anigotensin 11 from activing the adrenal cortex, therefore lowering BP
What does a + Inotrope do?
Increases Heart contractility, decreases Heart rate
What does a vasopressor do?
Cause vasoconstriction of the vessel (treating hypotension)
What does an antidysrhytmic do?
What is their goal?
used to treat dysrhthmias by altering the electrophysiological properties of the heart.
Slow HR, Increase contraction, Increase CO
What does an antiplatelet do?
Stops platelets from aggregating
What does an anticoagulant do?
Stop blood clot from forming, or from progressing further
What does a fibrinolytic do?
Break down the fibrin within the clot
What do thrombolytics do?
Break up the clot itself
