Taper dose due to upregulation
Sotalol
Class IV antiarrhythmic
Action: Blocks Ca within the myocardium
Uses: Supraventricular tachycardias
Oral dosing
Diltiazem
Action: Vasodilators
Prevents the conversion of angiotensin I to angiotensin II
Decreases aldosterone
Uses: heart failure
hypertension
Can cause hypotension or GI upset
Enalapril
Benazepril
Action: Dilates arteries
Uses: Decreases afterload with CHF
Hydralazine
Action: Dilates veins
Uses: Reduces preload to improve cardiac output
Reduces pulmonary edema
Used as a transdermal patch or 1/4 strip of ointment to ear
Nitroglycerin
Action: Inhibits movement of Ca
Uses: CHF
Can cause hypotension
Verapamil
Action: Dilates peripheral arteries
Uses: hypertension
Can cause anorexia
Diltiazem
Nifedipine
Action: interferes with conversion of prothrombin to thrombin
Uses: blood tubes
