Cardiovascular and Pulmonary: Intervention: Graded Exercise Test Flashcards
1
Q
Exercise Tolerance Test/Graded Exercise Test
A
- Measures the physiological responses during increasing exercise workloads
2
Q
Exercise Tolerance Test/Graded Exercise Test: Administration
A
- Typically before phase II cardiac rehab
- After cardiac rehab as an outcome measure
- Used to screen fir CAD in asymptomatic individuals
3
Q
ETT with Radionuclide Perfusion
A
- Pharmacological stress test
- Imaging is used to detect decreased blood flow to myocardium
4
Q
Maximal ETT
A
- Assess for maximal exertion
- Risk of abnormal responses increases significantly for HR over 85% predicted HRmax.
- Should only be performed in clinic with advanced cardiac life support
5
Q
Submaximal ETT
A
- Symptom limited or terminated at 85% predicted HRmax
- Safer than maximal testing
- Assess early recovery of patients following MI, coronary bypass, coronary angioplasty
6
Q
Continuous ETT
A
- Workload is steadily progressed
7
Q
Discontinuous ETT
A
- Allows rest in between workloads
- Patients with more pronounced CAD
8
Q
Positive ETT
A
- Indicated myocardial oxygen supply is inadequate
- Positive for ischemia
9
Q
Negative ETT
A
- Indicates physiologic demand is met at several different workloads
10
Q
False- Positive ETT
A
- Test is interpreted as positive but patient does not have ischemia
11
Q
False Negative ETT
A
- Test is interpreted as negative but the patient has ischemia
12
Q
Monitor: Heart Rate
A
- Increases linearly with workload
- Plateaus just before maximal oxygen uptake
13
Q
Monitor BP
A
- SBP: Should rise with increasing workloads
- DBP: Should remain about the same with increasing workloads
14
Q
RPE Scale
A
- Important for ratings of exertion in populations who HR rise may be blunted with increases in workload due to medications such as Beta Blockers
