cardiovascular Flashcards
cardiomyopathy
acquired or inherited disease of the heart muscle
difficulty pumping blood effectively
stiffen, enlarge or thicken
symptoms: sob, fatigue, swelling, dizziness, fainting, arrythmias, chest pain
shock
sudden drop in blood flow throughout the body
oxygen deprivation to organs and tissues
buildup of waste products
cardiac output
how much blood your heart can pump in a minute
blood pressure
force of blood inside arteries
multiorgan failure
two or more organ systems are not working correctly
subsequent to an acute injury or illness
acute renal failure (ARF)/acute kidney injury (AKI)
sudden and often temporary loss of kidney function
kidneys suddenly become unable to filter waste products from the blood - dangerous accumulation of waste
acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS)
non-cardiogenic pulmonary oedema and diffuse lung inflammation syndrome
typically presents with dyspnoea and hypoxaemia
progresses to resp failure
acute onset
bilateral opacities on chest xray/unexplained consolidations on ultrasound
disseminated intravascular coagulation
widespread hypercoagulable state
causes clotting and compromised blood flow
can result in MOF
