Cardiophysiology Disease Flashcards
myocardial infarct
heart attack; caused by formation of neurotic tissue due to resisted blood flow (ischemia)
Congestive Heart Faliure
heart is unable to adequately pump blood throughout the body; right side - fluid in body; left side - excess fluild in the lungs
deep vain thrombosis
blood clots -> embolism (blood clot can go the heart and get stuck in the cappilares)
patent foramen ovule (PFO)
opening between the left and right atria that did not close after birth
PFO and DVT
clot can travel through the opening and reach other parts of the body, such as the brain
hemorrhagic stroke
caused by broken vessel
ischemic stroke
caused by lack of blood flow
stenosis
stiff valve that can’t fully open; backflow occurs
atherosclerosis
plaque builds up in the lining of the arteries, reduces blood flow
sound of a partially and completely blocked heart
Partial blockage: turbulence, heart mummer
Completely blocked: P and QRS is dissociated, SA node fires as normal, but the electrial impulse does not go through the ventricles
