Cardio pathologys Flashcards
Explain right ventricular failure (RVF)
Right ventricular failure is due to chronic lung disease, when thr vessels in the lungs are constricted due to hyperinflation of the chest, causes high BP in pulmonary circulation, and then the right ventricle hypertrophies as it has to pump harder to get blood into pulm circulation
Explain left ventricular failure (LVF)
Lvf is left ventricular failure, when you have high blood pressure the left ventricle has to contract harder to open the aortic valve, so left ventricle hypertrophies
What is myocardial infarction?
When the metabolic needs of the cardiac tissue exceeds perfusion to the myocardium. Leading to irreversible tissue damage. Most commonly caused by total occlusion of the coronary arteries.
What’s is atherosclerosis?
A disease that affects arteries There is a chronic inflammatory reaction in the walls of the arteries, with deposition of cholesterol and fatty proteins
MI risk factors
Hypertension Smoking Diabetes mellitus Lack of exercise Obesity Family history
