Brain Circulation Flashcards
Describe arteries supplying the brain from the posterior
2 vertebral arteries pass up transverse foremen of cervical vertebra and join in front of the brainstem forming basilar artery.
It divides into 2 posterior communicating arteries and 2 posterior cerebral arteries
Which complete the circle of Willis
Describe arteries supplying the brain from the anterior
Internal carotids pass I front of neck and divide to form the anterior cerebral arteries and middle cerebral arteries
These two sections are joined anteriorly by the anterior communicating artery
To form front section of circle of Willis
Which regions of the brain does the anterior cerebral artery supply
Medial part of frontal lobes - primary motor cortex
Medial part of superior parietal lobes - primary sensory cortex
Which area of the brain does the middle cerebral artery supply
Lateral parts of frontal and parietal lobes
Lateral and inferior regions of temporal lobes
Broca’s area
Wernickes area
Basal ganglia
What does the posterior cerebral artery supply
Occipital lobes
Posterior part of temporal lobes
Thalamus
What does the basilar artery supply
All of brainstem
Cerebellum
Nuclei of cranial nerves
