Bisoprolol
Antihypertensives
purpose: treatment of mild to moderate hypertension
Nurs con: peak 2-4 hours
-therapeutic response in 1-2 weeks
-do not stop med abruptly; may precipitate angina
-do not use OTC meds with stimulants such as nasal decongestants or cold meds unless directed
Clonidine patch

purpose: tx of hypertension, severe pain in cancer patients & ADHD

purpose: reduction of cholesterol levels Nurs con (Ezetimibe is not a statin; can be used with a statin or alone)

Fluvastatin
antilipemic agents
purpose: reduction of cholesterol levels, secondary prevention of coronary evens in patients with CAD
Gemfibrozil

purpose: reduction of cholesterol levels
Lovastatin

purpose: reduction of cholesterol levels
Nurs con: take with food, absorption is reduced by 30% on an empty stomach
Niacin (Nicotinic Acid)

purpose: treatment of pellagra, hyperlipidemia, & peripheral vascular disease
Pravastatin

purpose: reduction of cholesterol levels & risk of recurrent MI treatment of atherosclerosis
Rosuvastatin calcium

purpose: reduction of cholesterol levels & progression of atherosclerosis, prophylaxis of cardiovascular disease & stroke
Simvastatin

purpose: reduction of cholesterol, triglyceride & lipoprotein levels; prophylaxis of MI & stroke
