Cardio And Respitory Systems Flashcards
Definition of the pathway of blood through the heart
Oxygenated blood is carried to heart from the lungs in the pulmonary veins. The ventricle pumps blood though the semilunar valve into the aorta and around the body.
Define Redistribution of blood when exercising
During exercise the cardiovascular system redistributes the blood so that more of it goes to the working muscles and less the the other organs and non working muscles
Define redistribution of blood when at rest
The blood travels through the body and to all organs and muscles
Define Aerobic exercise
Endurance type exercises that increase a persons heart rate and breathing rate overtime
Define anaerobic exercise
Exercises that involve short bursts of intense activity
Gaseous exchange
This is the process by which oxygen and carbon dioxide move between the blood stream and lungs
What is supplied to the blood and what is released by the blood in gaseous exchange
Oxygen if supplied to the blood and carbon dioxide is released
What are Mechanics of breathing when inhaling
- The inter coastal muscles contract which expands ribcage
- the diaphragm contracts, pulling downwards to increase volume of the chest
- pressure inside the chest is lowered and air is sucked into the lungs
What are the mechanics of breathing when breathing out
- Inter coastal muscles relax making the rib cage to drops inwards
- diaphragm relaxes moving back upwards, decreasing the volume
- pressure of air in the chest increases which forces air out
