Cardio And Respitory Systems Flashcards

1
Q

Definition of the pathway of blood through the heart

A

Oxygenated blood is carried to heart from the lungs in the pulmonary veins. The ventricle pumps blood though the semilunar valve into the aorta and around the body.

Q

Define Redistribution of blood when exercising

A

During exercise the cardiovascular system redistributes the blood so that more of it goes to the working muscles and less the the other organs and non working muscles

Q

What are Mechanics of breathing when inhaling

A
  • The inter coastal muscles contract which expands ribcage
  • the diaphragm contracts, pulling downwards to increase volume of the chest
  • pressure inside the chest is lowered and air is sucked into the lungs

Q

What are the mechanics of breathing when breathing out

A
  • Inter coastal muscles relax making the rib cage to drops inwards
  • diaphragm relaxes moving back upwards, decreasing the volume
  • pressure of air in the chest increases which forces air out
