Q

Which ventricle does the blood move into aorta from?

A

-it moves in from the left ventricle
-aorta then branches into main arteries supplying organ systems

Q

Are most artery systems in the body in a parallel or series circuit?

A

They are in a parallel circuit
->the only ones in a series are the hepatic portal system(gut to liver), hypothalamus-anterior pituitary and renal glomeruli to tubules

Q

What is the purpose of the parallel circuit?

A

-each organ receives a portion of blood pumped from the left ventricle
-as well, each organ receives freshly oxygenated blood
-in a parallel system, blood flow can be tailored to specific needs

Q

What are the factors that determine resistance

A
  1. Viscosity
  2. Vessel length(doesn’t really matter)
  3. Vessel radius
    ->smaller radius=increased resistance
->note small changes in vessel radius profoundly impacts vascular resistance
