What is the purpose of the mediastinal chest tubes?
A
Remove bloody fluid from operative site.

What is the purpose of pleural chest tubes?
A
Remove air, blood or serous fluid from the pleural space.

Post valve repair , why it is important to watch for hypotension?
A
Patients with valve stenosis or chronic regurg have had elevated end-diastolic volumes. Sudden preload normalization May result in hypotension.

Why do some valve repair patients require temporary pacers?
A
Mitral, tricuspid and aortic valves are anatomically close to conduction pathways.

Describe pulsus paradoxus?
A
An excessive drop in SBP (>12mmhg) during inspiration.
Can indicate cardiac tamponade.
