Cardiac Emergencies in Children Flashcards
Shock in a child - important thing to remember:
BP is the last thing to go - so even though BP is ok perfusions, CO and all that jazz has already gone out the window.
Avoid O2 if left side obstruction why?
bc high inspirted O2 causes some reaction that causes the PDA (patent ductus arteriosus) to close
-would use some low level O2 SAT is low and see how much it helps…
Why use nitric oxide?
- relax pulmonary arterioles to encourage more pulm blood flow
- no effect on ductus arteriosus
SVT long term therapy - meds and surgical:
- beta blocker
- digoxin - slows conduction through AV node
- CCB
- amiodarone - big gun with a lot of side effects
-ablation procedure
In What situation do we see a rare complete heart block in a newborn?
if the mom has lupus - autoantibody

-post-pericardiotomy syndome
you hear a rub its probably not?
-NOT CARDIAC TAMPONADE (A LOT OF FLUID PROBABLY NO RUB)

Continuous murmur!
