Cardiac drugs (misc) Flashcards
1
Q
Anti-platelet drugs, how do they work and give examples?
A
Reduces platelet aggregation and reduces thrombus formation, can reverse clots e.g. asprin and clopidogrel
2
Q
Anti-coagulants, what three types are there?
A
- Vitamin K antagonists e.g. warfarin (can increase bone fractures)
- Thrombin inhibitor e.g. Dabigatran
- Heparin e.g. Heparin, Enoxaparin sodium (Clexane, inhixa)
- All will prevent clots but not reverse them
3
Q
Digoxin
A
Cardiac glycoside
Used to treat congestive heart failure by increasing the force of heart contraction.
4
Q
Atropine
A
Prevents bradycarida (slow heart beat)
Can treat cholinergic poisonings
5
Q
Amiodarone
A
- Antidysrhythmic
- Can cause:
- whorl-like keratopathy which may resolve in about 1year after treatment stopped
- optic neuropathy.
- loss of eyelash and eyebrow follicles
- photophobia
6
Q
Dabigatrin
A
Thrombin inhibitor
7
Q
Warfarin
A
- Vitamin K antagonist
- Associated with sub-conj haem and retinal haem
