Definition
The blood supply to the heart is stopped by a clot. Lack of blood to the heart can usually damage the heart muscle

Coronary heart disease is the leading cause of heart attacks
Blood vessels that supply blood to the heart are clocked by deposits of cholesterol, known plaques

Major symptoms
Chest pains, chest feels like it’s being pressed or squeezed by a heavy object
Shortness of breath
Feeling weak/lightheaded
Overwhelming feeling of anxiety

Antiplatelet - reduce risk of heart attacks, include a low dose of aspirin
High cholesterol - statins
High blood pressure and angina - beta blockers
Nitrates to widen blood vessels
Ace inhibitors to treat high blood pressure

stop smoking
increase exercise level
keep to a healthy weight
cut down on salt, alcohol and fats

P - manage diet change, hard to motivate themselves, may have to have angioplasty/stents fitted
I - less concentrated
E - stressed, down, upset, anxious, worried about condition, denial
S - withdrawn from friends, friends may get worried
F - time off work
