Name the causes of a cardiac arrest.
Hypokalemia, hyperkalemia, hypertension, hyperthermia, toxins, tension pneumothorax, tamponade, hypoxia
What is a cardiac arrest?
A sudden medical emergency where the heart stops pumping blood around the body
Name the symptoms of a cardiac arrest.
Fainting, fatigue, chest pain, shortness of breath, vomiting, unconsciousness, abnormal breathing, no pulse
What is meant by tension pneumothorax?
Pressure has built up on the heart.
What is meant by tamponade?
Blood clots have accumulated around the heart.
What is hypothermia?
A body temperature that is below 35 degrees centigrade
What is hyperkalemia?
When the levels of potassium in the blood are high.
What is hypokalemia?
When the levels of potassium in the blood are too low.
What is meant by hypovalemia?
That there is a decreased blood volume.
Why can toxins cause a cardiac arrest?
Because some medications can be poisonous depending on the dosage given.
