Cardiac Arrest Flashcards
1
Q
What is first steps in cardiac arrest?
A
- Unresponsive and not breathing properly
- Call resus team
- CPR 30:2 and attach defibrillator
- Assess rhythm
2
Q
What are shockable rhythms?
A
VF/Pulseless VT
3
Q
What is the protocol if patient in shockable rhythm?
A
- 1 shock
- Immediately resume CPR for 2 min
- Assess rhythm
4
Q
What other things should be done?
A
- Give oxygen
- Use waveform capnography
- Continuous compression if advanced airway
- Minimise interruptions for CPR
- IV or intraosseous access
5
Q
What drugs are administered when?
A
- Give adrenaline every 3-5 min 1mg
2. Give amiodarone after 3 shocks 300mg and consider 150mg after 5 schocks
6
Q
What are the reversible causes?
A
- Hypoxia
- Hypovolaemia
- Hypo/hyperkalaemia/metabolic
- Hypo/hyperthermia
- Thrombosis: coronary or pulmonary
- Tension pneumothorax
- Tamponade: cardiac
- Toxins
7
Q
What should be considered?
A
- Coronary angiography/percutaneous coronary intervention
- Mechanical chest compression to facilitate transfer/treatment
- Extracorporeal CPR
8
Q
What is done after return of spontaneous circulation?
A
- ABCDE
- Aim for SPO2 of 94-98% and normal PaCO2
- 12 lead ECG
- Identify and treat cause
- Targeted temperature management
9
Q
What are non shockable rhythms?
A
PEA/Asystole
10
Q
What is done in a non-shockable rhythm?
A
- Immediately resume CPR for 2 min
2. Assess rhythm
