Q

What are the reactions carboxylic acids can have with bases?

A
  1. metal oxide + carboxylic acid = a salt + water
  2. metal hydroxide + carboxylic acid = a salt + water
  3. Metal carbonate + carboxylic acid = a salt + water + carbon dioxide
(when long chained fatty acids are used a soap is produced)
