Inhibition of NaHCO3 reabsorption as these agents increase water, sodium, potassium and bicarbonate excretion; causing alkaline urinary PH

Therapeutic Use

A
  • Glaucome: Ciliary body of the eye secretes ions from carbonic anhydrase catalyse conversion of CO2 + H2O to carbonic acid leading to aqeous humor production
  • Inhibition of CA activity decrease rate and volume of aqeous humor production, decreasing intraocular pressure
